The business was established in 1990 by John Macpherson who was previously the development manager for Cramond Estates Limited, responsible for numerous office and industrial development projects in the South-east of England.
Before joining Cramond, he spent several years in commercial property and development agency, mainly in London with Savills and then Richard Ellis, now CBRE, in their central London offices. He moved with Richard Ellis to South Africa during the early 1980s to manage and develop the firm’s industrial and development division. Soon afterwards, he became involved in direct development, mainly in the offices & business park sector in South Africa, before returning to London in 1988.
In recent years Maclan Developments has successfully completed a number of distribution warehouse, industrial and office developments including projects in Warrington and Bolton, greater Manchester; Tamworth and Bromsgrove in the West Midlands as well as numerous projects in the south-east including Basingstoke, Heathrow, Camberley, Aylesbury, Welwyn Garden City and Strood, Kent.
The company’s projects have mostly been undertaken for or sold on to a range of well-known investors including; Henderson Global Investors, National Farmers Union Pension Fund, Scottish Provident Institution, Norwich Union, Canada Life and Scottish Amicable Life Fund. Other schemes have been secured and completed with a variety of Joint Venture partners as well as with End Users.
